Send in the Docs: A musical assessment of the Mets situation

So first they said that Jose Reyes had sustained a hamstring injury in Saturday’s game and we held our collective breath.

Then they said it was a Grade One, the “best” kind of that injury you can have. He’d miss the Sunday game and, given the long flight to the West Coast, perhaps Monday’s, just as a precaution. Whew. And good news: he was voted in as starting NL shortstop for the All-Star Game. Nice.

Then he didn’t play Tuesday. Or Wednesday.

Now he’s headed for the Disabled List? What the…?

I wrote about the Mets’ medical situation recently vis a vis Davis’ ankle injury, and this just adds fuel to that fire.

What is it with their medical staff? Is the team so anxious to keep their fans happy that they, well, lie about the prognoses of Ike Davis, Johan Santana, David Wright (haven’t heard about him in ages), and now Reyes? We all want to be positive, glass half-full types, but give it to us straight; we can take it.

So, with apologies to Stephen Sondheim…

Ike Davis and Jose Reyes:
Isn’t it rich?
Aren’t we a pair?
Two prime examples of
Mets’ poor health care.
Send in the clowns.

Davis:
Doesn’t this suck?
Stuck in this boot.
Thought I’d be playing by now.
That point’s now moot.

Reyes:
Just when they said, “one day or two”
‘Til my sore hamstring was as good as new.
Mucking it up once again with their usual flair,
Sure of their thoughts…
Does anyone care?
