How do you suppose Monte Irvin got the nickname “Mr. Murder?” Maybe it’s one of those opposite things, like call a tall guy “Shorty.” Anyway, Irvin — who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1973 — turns 92 today. He published his autobiography, Nice Guys Finish First – The Autobiography of Monte Irvin, in 1986 and lent his name to the 2007 publication, Few and Chosen: Defining Negro League Greatness
