Three of a kind

January 10, 2011

A couple of days ago I posted an entry about some unique baseball books. Since then I’ve exchanged a few e-mails with Erin Zamrzla, creator of these unique mini-notebooks.

I asked how she chose the three relatively obscure players — Sibby Sisti, Andy Seminick, and Don Kolloway — for her project.

“I ended up using these specific players by default,” she explained. “My Dad had a great baseball card collection, and my Mom sent me a few of the cards that were graded to be of the least value. The ones that she sent me were either poorly printed or damaged. Since I didn’t grow up in that era, I know very little about many of the players. I now appreciate them for their visual quality.”

In that case, I asked, these must be on-of-a kind items?

“Yep! Each book is completely one-of-a-kind. I was able to peel the actual card into two parts and adhere the front of the card to one board for the front cover and the back of the card separately to another board for the back cover. Each book is created from the actual vintage card.”

Given the time, effort, and what I guess must be a relative scarcity of the cards, the $36 price for each book doesn’t seem out of order.
