New feature: What the postman just brought

November 22, 2010

No, it’s not a noirish thriller, but rather a way of letting authors and publishers (and you) know what goodies I’ve just received. This is in addition to the widgets you see under the “what I’m reading now” heading. Truth is, I’m not always reading everything as soon as they come in, although I do peruse it upon arrival.

I apologize to all of those who have kindly sent me the products of their blood and sweat, especially those who have persevered to have their books published against mighty odds. I know how hard you’ve all worked and how much you’d like to get your messages out there. But time and the real world world conspire against me to get everything done in a timely manner. That said, please know I will get to everything eventually.

So over the past few days, I received:

  • The Hardball Times 2001: I always look forward to a recap of the most recent season, while the events are still fresh in my mind.
  • Fantasy Baseball, by Alan Gratz. I usually don’t read young adult novels, but Gratz’s baseball themes (Samurai Shortstop, The Brooklyn Nine) goes beyond the standard fare
  • Target Field: The New Home of the Minnesota Twins. More than just a self-congratulatory look at the ballpark, this looks at the behind-the-scenes machinations to bring the ballpark to fruition, from the drawing board to Opening Day.
