Ichiro Suzuki turns 37 today. The first position player from japan to make a big splash, it’s understandable Suzuki is naturally the subject of several books, both on his baseball prowess and the cultural significance of his achievements.

Today also marks Jimmie Foxx’s DOB (1907). He’s often overlooked, in comparison with sluggers like Ruth, Mantle, Aaron, Mays, etc., but he did hit 534 home runs in his 20 year career, with a high of 58 in 1932 as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics. Legend has it that the character of Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own was based on Foxx.
