* Baseball Preview Review: Sports Weekly

April 4, 2009

Unfortunately, USA Today Sports Weekly does not have a stand-alone website. In the New York area, the cover features a large photo of the Yankees’ Johnny Damon, and two smaller ones: Kevin Youkilis of the Red Sox and Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Rays (not sure if there are regional covers, but I wouldn’t be surprised).

  • Lead article: “Al East heavyweights slug it out,” on the Yankees Sox and Rays.
  • “Getting to know: Emmanuel Burriss,” a hot shot rookie looking to be the Giants’ every-day second sacker
  • Some ballplayers who might be surprise award winners come October
  • Predictions by Sports Weekly stalwarts Mel Antonen, Seth Livingstone, bob Nightengale, Jorge L. Ortiz, and Paul White on division, pennant and World Series winners, as well as surprise team and player, disappointing team and player, and award winners.
  • The team profiles feature a best/worst case scenario, schedules, and projected lineup and rotation.
  • A top-25 college poll
  • The center spread features a look at the new Yankee Stadium and Citi Field
