* Amazon's top baseball titles, week ending 7/19

July 19, 2008

General:

  1. Yankee for Life: My 40-year Journey in Pinstripes, by Bobby Murcer. The passing of the former ballplayer puts this one on top.
  2. Yankee Stadium: The Official Retrospective, by Santasiere and Vancil. The closing of the ballpark makes this subgenre hot. But why don’t they wait until the final season is over, which would complete the theme? I guess there are more books that can be written after the last out is made.
  3. Moneyball, by Michael Lewis. Still crazy after all these years.
  4. The Science of Hitting, by Ted Williams and John Underwood. Even older than Moneyball.
  5. The 33-Year Old Rookie, by Chris Coste

Essays and Writings:

  1. Ball Four, by Jim Bouton
  2. Sports Illustrated: The Baseball Book
  3. Heads-Up Baseball: Playing the Game One Pitch at a Time, by Hanson and Ravizza
  4. Heroes of the Hall, by Ron Smith
  5. Vindicated, by Jose Canseco

  4. Crazy ’08, by Cait Murphy
