Something to look forward to.
Recently received the Spring/Summer catalog from the University of Nebraska Press, publishers of my own 501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read before They Die. These folks traditionally come up with thoughtful and somewhat unusual topics, but for their upcoming season, there seems to be a higher number of pertinent titles than usual, among them (the links take you to the UNP site for the books’ blurbs):
- 1962: Baseball and America in the Time of JFK, by David Krell
- Cobra: A Life of Baseball and Brotherhood, by Dave Parker and Dave Jordan
- Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox in Their Own Words, by Erik Sherman
- Tony Lazzari: Yankees Legend and Baseball Pioneer, by Lawrence Baldassaro
- The Pride of Minnesota: The Twins in the Turbulent 1960s, by Thom Henninger
- Clubbie: A Minor League Baseball Memoir, by Greg Larson
- Forty Years a Giant: The Life of Horace Stoneham, by Steven Treder
- Comeback Pitchers: The Remarkable Careers of Howard Ehmke and Jack Quinn, by Lyle Spatz and Steve Steinberg
- The Best Team Over There: The Untold Story of Grover Cleveland Alexander and the Great War, by Jim Leeke
- Escape from Castro’s Cuba: A Novel, by Tim Wendell
- Oscar Charleston: The Life and Legend of Baseball’s Greatest Forgotten Player, by Jeremy Beer
- Winning in Both Leagues: Reflections from Baseball’s Front Office, by J. Frank Cashen
Not that it really makes a difference, but the last three will be coming out in paperback.
