Happy Trail(ers) to You

August 6, 2019

Image result for a league of their ownWas tooling around the dial the other day (well, I guess TVs don’t actually have dials anymore) and came across one of my favorite “poppy seed” movies, A League of Their Own. (Amazingly, I can’t find the definition of a PSM online, but to my mind, it’s one of those films that you’ll watch whenever it comes on, regardless of how often you’ve already seen it. It’s like a drug, get it?)

My remote gives a few options to get info about whatever program is showing and I discovered there’s a feature which allows you to view the original theatrical trailer. So I thought it would be fun to post a few of them here to see how they stand the test of time. Just feature films here, no documentaries in this one.

Some of these have gone under the radar, and rightly so, IMO. Also, I realize it might not be fair to grade these on the same level, given their target audiences; movies for kids, for example, could be considered a special case, but miam blog, miam reglis.

Let me know if I missed something. In no particular order…

THE BEST

The classics. Sadly I could not find the official trailer for The Pride of the Yankees on-line.

Note that the original title for the 1951 version of Angels in the Outfield was different on-screen.

And another Paul Douglas baseball movie (was Douglas the Kevin Costner of his era?)

THE GOOD

THE ALL RIGHT

I’d watch it, although I’d wait till it came to TV. *61 actually was a made-for-TV movie, as was One In a Million, a story about the Detroit Tigers’ Ron LeFlore story

THE BAD

Cliched story lines. You know, a person, a guy who needs to get his priorities straight or overcomes adversity to succeed.)

THE UGLY

Yeah, pretty much sums it up.

THE WORST

And just FYI:
