March 15, 2016

This is the time of year when baseball books start hitting the shelves in earnest:

Is it just me, or have no-hitters somewhat lost their allure? Maybe because they seem more common, albeit still mathematically rare. There have been a number of books on the topic, but what more can you really say? It all comes down to the agonizing tension as fans (and the pitcher) count down to see  if it will reach its un-inevitable conclusion. (Poorly) Written upshot: “Whether one is a casual fan or someone who lives and breathes the sport, “Baseball’s No-Hit Wonders” is essential reading for fans.”

Here’s another one from the Tampa Bay Tribune on-line edition. (Better written) Upshot: the book “is a valuable — and entertaining — reference for baseball historians and fans.” (There’s also a profile on the author, given that he used to work for the paper.)

A story in the Naples Daily New is more a profile of the author than a review, but for the sake of continuity, I’m dropping it here.
