Too long to wait for new POTY book

Maybe I should make it “2L2W,” along the lines of W2W4 (what to watch for, for the uncool out there).

After reading his spot-on critique of the Sunday ESPN Game of the Week between the Mets and Nationals in today’s New York Times, I exchanged a few emails with sports media columnist Richard Sandomir.

https://thekat2010.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/pride-of-the-yankees.jpg?resize=188%2C285During the course of this conversation, he shared that he had just signed a contract for a book he had mentioned before about the making of one of my favorite baseball flicks, The Pride of the Yankees.

The news is finally official. From the “bbok Deals” column in Publishers Weekly:

Hachette Takes ‘Pride’ to the Ballpark
Richard Sandomir, a sports columnist for the New York Times, sold Iron Hero to Mauro DiPreta at Hachette Books. DiPreta took world rights from Andrew Blauner at Blauner Books Literary Agency. The book, subtitled Pride of the Yankees and the Legend of Lou Gehrig, examines how the 1942 film Pride of the Yankees shaped Gehrig’s image in pop culture and helped establish a new kind of Hollywood film. According to Sandomir, the movie was “the first important sports film” and “kick-started a genre that was fairly undistinguished until then.” The book is slated for 2017, to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the film’s release.

My only complaint is having to wait the two years.

I’m sure Iron Hero will join the ranks of other preferred books meshing two of my favorite pastimes, including:
