Move over, Gary Cooper and William Bendix

And, let’s not forget Anthony Perkins.

These three popular actors made baseball films that were memorable for one reason or another and none of them displayed an ounce of athletic talent portraying, respectively, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, and Jim Piersall. Sure there were others who probably should have turned down such demanding roles,  but those were the first one’s that popped into my head.

Kevin Spacey joins their ranks, although, to be fair, he’s not playing an athlete, but a conniving politician in the hit Netflix show House of Cards.

Spacey plays manipulative Congressman Frank Underwood who has lied, stolen, and — gasp– murdered his way into the Vice Presidency.

In a Season Two episode, he’s supposed to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at Camden Yards. Here’s the scene of him warming up in his backyard, which seems to be about 30 feet long.

(Sorry for the bad video quality.)

Fortunately for Underwood, a blackout takes out the entire Mid-Atlantic region and prevents him from making a fool of himself. Given the nature of the character, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he engineered the outage to save face.

By comparison, here’s some footage of the above-mentioned actors:
