WTW4 this fall

August 1, 2014

Publishers Weekly Announcements SubmissionPublishers Weekly came out with their fall preview issue. Not exactly sure how this works, but there are two lists, One is included in this overview by Jonathan Segura. The other makes note of 18 purported baseball titles. I say “purported” because the uncredited piece includes 50 Greatest Players in New York Giants Football History. Really? The word “football” is in there so it’s not like it could confused with the old NY baseball Giants. Anyway.

Only two baseball books made it to Segura’s list: Rickey & Robinson: The True, Untold Story of the Integration of Baseballby Roger Kahn (Rodale, Sept. 16), deemed a top ten pick; and Baseball’s Greatest Comeback: The Miracle Braves of 1914 by J. Brian Ross, although this one is actually slated for release today. Last time I looked, August was still considered part of the summer. Does the publishing industry really consider it as falling into the fall? No wonder it’s doing so poorly lately.

There are a also couple of other titles that probably include baseball, such as Scribe: My Life in Sports, by Bob Ryan, and The Best American Sports Writing 2014.
