Happy anniversary, Major League

April 7, 2014

For some reason, it seems a lot longer than 25 years since Major League hits the screen. Must be the clothes.

To be honest, this was never one of my favorites. I found the characters a bit too cartoonish, especially coming after the more realistic Bull Durham. Although the phrase “Juuuust a bit outside” — the title of this piece by Jim Caple — is still being used on baseball and softball fields all over the place.

ESPN also offers this photo gallery.

The film spawned to (IMHO) inferior sequels, Major League II (1994) and Major League: Back to the Minors (1998, featuring a pre-Justified Walton Goggins on the roster).

The narrator for the trailers sure has a 1980s vibe, don’t you think?
