Bits and pieces, Nov. 12

November 12, 2012

♦  More on Jeff Kent’s Survivor experience from The Wall Street Journal. I don’t get it: he thinks it should be harder, yet he was “kicked off the island.” Does that mean he didn’t try harder b3ecause it wasn’t challenging enough?

♦  Mets pitcher and memoirist R.A. Dickey was named recipient of the Branch Rickey Award, “which was created by the Rotary Club of Denver, Colorado. The award works to help at-risk kids in the Denver area.” Well done, sir.

♦  The Soo Evening News from Saute Ste. Marie, Mich. (say that five times fast), published this feature about Rocks Across the Pond, written by the parents of Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander. At the risk of being cynical (what, me cynical?) this seems like another in a line of material that would not be published if not for the tangential attachment to a celebrity. Discuss.
