Slate’s Hang Up and Listen, is one of my “must-hear” podcasts. The chatter is almost always entertaining (except when they talk about soccer. ugh.). This week one of the topics was the classic Abbot and Costello routine. Coming on the heals of the Seinfeld-Costas deconstruction aired last week on the MLB Network, I have to wonder, why now? There’s no landmark anniversary of which I’m aware.
Anyway, here’s the HUAL in which the WOF segment appears (at about the 20:20 mark), as well as a few germane links from the HUAL site:
- Jerry Seinfeld’s analysis of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First?”
- A version of the “Who’s on First?” routine. (The one used on the Seinfeld-Costas program; not one of my favorites.)
- A history of “Who’s on First?” including its origins as “The Baker Scene.”
- The Kids in the Hall demonstration of how to short-circuit the “Who the First?” routine. (Very funny.)
