John Grisham’s Calico Joe was number one on The New York Times Bestseller list two weeks ago; now it’s number three, (It has been explained to that the list as printed in the Sunday book supplement is two weeks behind the on-line version, but I can’t say it makes much sense to me.)
Needless to say, Grisham has been making the rounds. Here are just a few of his “appearances.” (As a reminder, here’s my take on the book from Bookreporter.com.):
- A Q&A in the Columbus Dispatch.
- An interview on CBS-TV in which he acknowledges that e-books will account for an increasing part of his sales.
- Another interview.
- Grisham dished the dirt with fellow authors Scott Turrow and Michael Harvey. He even threw out the first pitch at a Cubs game!
- This is a rather unsettling one: A review of the audio version, as read by a female-voiced computer reader. At least I hope it’s computer generated.
I would love to hear the explanation as to why this excerpt on the Huffington Post comes from the British edition of the novel. I have to ask about one line in particular: Grisham writes “The baseball rule book is six inches thick…” Six inches thick??? What version is he looking at? I had to leave a comment on that one. “According to Amazon.com, The Official Rules of Major League baseball (published by Triumph Books) measures “6.3 x 4.1 x 0.6 inches.” Maybe it’s artistic license.
