New biopic on Hank Aaron in the works (UPDATE)

April 4, 2012

According to this piece on The Hollywood Reporter site, there’s a new feature film in the works (or at least on the drawing board) focusing on Hank Aaron’s career as he marched towards the all-time home run record between 1972 and 1975.

The film, which will be directed by Barry (The Natural) Levinson, was adapted from The Last Hero: A Life of Henry Aaron by Howard Bryant. Aaron will participate as a consultant. The article does not include casting information for the project which will be produced by Mike Tollin and Glenn Rigberg.

The article also includes a slide-show feature about sports figures who became actors.

UPDATE: According to Entertainment Weekly‘s website, “Casting will not begin in earnest until the script is completed. The hope is to go into production next year, and release in 2014, in time for both the 40th anniversary of Aaron’s record, and the man’s 80th birthday.”
