Homer at the Bat marks 20th anniversary

February 21, 2012

Where does the time go?

This past Sunday, we celebrated the 500th episode of The Simpsons.(personally, I thought it was only meh). But Chris Jaffe over at Hardball Times noted that yesterday was 20 years since the softball-centric Homer at the Bat — with its own set of All-Stars — premiered.

Among the athletes playing themselves (some better than others), were First baseman Don Mattingly, second baseman Steve Sax, shortstop Ozzie Smith, third baseman Wade Boggs, catcher Mike Scioscia, pitcher Roger Clemens, right fielder Strawberry, center fielder Ken Griffey, Jr., and left fielder Jose Canseco.

Ballplayers, from left included Ken Griffey Jr., Wade Boggs, Darryl Strawberry, Steve Sax, Mike Scioscia, Don Mattingly, Jose Canseco, and Roger Clemens. Ozzie Smith is floating on the upper left.

The astute observer will note that the images in this YouTube video are reversed (I was wondering why Clemens was throwing lefty.)
