Maybe these guys should concentrate on playing

Or, “The Cursed Pen.”

What is it with the current batch of players who desire to be writers? First it was Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey who announced in spring training that he was going to pen a memoir. So he’s currently 2-5 with a 4.50 ERA and just came out of his start against the Cubs with an as-yet undiagnosed leg/foot injury.

Then I heard about Mike Arsenault, who pitches for the London Majors in the Intercounty Baseball League in London, Ontario. The season is just getting started up there, so it’s too early to say anything about the quality of his work. But according to this story, he busy with a 70,000 word novel about … a baseball player.

Finally there’s Scot Drucker, who handles the hubris-free blog “Great Scot.” He was in the Tigers’ minor league system (his blog still has the classic Detroit “D”), although as of this writing his on the Grand Prairie AirHogs in Indy ball.

C.J. Nitkowski was a blogger. He had a surprisingly long career (18-32, 5.37 in 10 Major League seasons) and is now plying his trade in Korea,

But you wonder, what might have been if all these guys had spent more time in the gym and less on the computer?
