A different set of dirty Sox

Last weekend’s interleague series between the Red Sox and Cubs was the impetus for this New York Times story that “reveals” the idea of throwing a World Series did not originate with the Black Sox of 1919, but the year before when Boston and Chicago last faced each other at Fenway Park.

The Times’ piece makes use of newly-minted official MLB historian John Thorn and refers to Sean Deveney’s book on the subject,  The Original Curse: Did the Cubs Throw the 1918 World Series to Babe Ruth’s Red Sox and Incite the Black Sox Scandal?
