Two American pastimes

Baseball and The Simpsons.

In the latest episode, Grandpa Abe serves as a guinea pig for a drug that will turn him from grumpy to glad. In order to test the product’s viability, the phrama testers experiment with several variations until the seemingly find the right one. The head of the company wants to make sure, so he gives Abe one final test.

Walter Hotenhoffer: How do you feel about the high salaries of today’s baseball players?

Abe: Oh, don’t get me started on that one! They’re just plain better than the greats of my day. God bless them and their refusal to learn English.

Quite the far cry from this 2000 piece from The Onion: “In My Day, Ballplayers Were for S***.”
