From MLB.com:

With the MLB Postseason underway, a one-of-a-kind item celebrating the game’s history is now available through a special charity auction on MLB.com.

The Official Major League Baseball Opus tells the story of baseball’s heritage on a scale unmatched in the history of illustrated publishing. Measuring 20 inches square and weighing 75 pounds with 790 pages, the Official MLB Opus features approximately 1,000 photographs, including many hidden jewels from the MLB archives, accompanied by 110,000 words comprising classic excerpts from the memoirs of notable players and from the most classic works of literature the sport has ever seen.

Of the less than 1,000 copies made of the book only one book was signed by every member of both the American and National League All-Star teams present in Anaheim this summer. That book is now available via auction.mlb.com, with proceeds benefiting RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and the Players Trust.

The auction ends Thursday, October 14.

Curious that they’d have 2010 All-Stars sign the book… because signatures from guys like Evan Meek and Marlon Byrd probably don’t add a whole lot of value. The NFL did a similar thing several years ago and had all of the Super Bowl MVPs sign it. Just saying…. Mays, Aaron, Musial or Meek & Byrd?

Hey, an All-Star is an All-Star. Imagine what it must feel like for Meek and Byrd to be included in such as prestigious project. Or perhaps the players don’t think it’s such a big deal?
