Lest we forget: Bobby Thomson

The man who hit “the shot heard ’round the world” died yesterday at the age of 86.

Here’s the Richard Goldstein obituary in The New York Times.

There have been several books about Thomson’s heroics. His home run is a staple of baseball lore in both fact and fictional versions.

From Gordon Clapp, via Facebook:

“My dad, a die-hard Giants fan who grew up in Ebbetts Field (Go figure) told me that he went so nuts when it happened that I ran to the living room and then ran to my mom in tears because Daddy was crazy. I was 3.”
