Baseball items include:

  • Lee Jenkin’s roundtable interview with several pitchers who were selected as the No. 1 pick in previous baseball drafts, including Tim Belcher, Andy Benes, Floyd Bannister, and Bobby Witt, as well as Lew Krausse and Paul Pettit, from the pre-draft days. Haven’t read it myself yet, but it would be interesting to parse some of the claims (Krause: “I pitched 18 no-hitters in my amateur career. I struck out 16, 17, 18 batters a game.”) a la Moose Skowron.
  • MLB Poll: Who’s the best fielder? I know the magazine has to fill space, bt these things are getting a little lame. Better to repeat some of the old Sporting News off-season surveys that asked questions like who’s the best dancer, best tipper, smartest businessman, etc. Kinda like high school yearbooks.
  • And for those who predicted that the loss of Manny Ramirez would kill the Dodgers, yeh, how did that work out?
