* Another book on baseball history

November 12, 2008

This one by Mark Cressnan in The A to Z History of Baseball.

At the risk of being totally unfair, I wonder about such books, self-published and without much pomp and circumstance. For the brief press release to state “Cressman, who possesses a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration, is an authority on the subject matter having an expertise in the field of sports,” doesn’t exactly bowl me over. I used to work in PR, so phrases like “Reading The A-to-Z History of Baseball will definitely bring enthusiasts into a timeline where men rally over statistics and getting that trophy, award and recognition is second nature to subsisting in the sports world,” is pretty poor inducement to have me actually put money down for it. Perhaps if they had included a few pictures from the book, or a sample chapter…

But then, any author could say, “So, Ron. How many books have you published?” Touché.
