- In a paean to game show host Bob Barker:
“As a child, Barker dreamed of pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals. When the manager of the Cardinals, Whitey Herzog, found this out, he invited Barker to show off his skills on the field and then offered him a contract. To this day, Bob Barker gets paid $1 a year if he keeps his promise never to pitch for the Cardinals again.”
