* Review: Interview From Red Sox Nation

May 19, 2008

From Fredericksburg.com/The Free Lance-Star, this piece opines that the recent success of the Red Sox has meant the death of those books that complain (whine?) about the decades of disappointment suffered by the franchise’s fans.Upshot:

The book is composed of numerous interviews by columnist David Laurila with assorted players, former players, coaches and personalities associated with the Boston Red Sox. Laurila has added a number of interviews since the 2006 hardback version including a number of top Sox prospects who have emerged in the last two years.

Unfortunately the prospect interviews tend to be the weakest and often show little more than an exacting familiarity with the cliches extolled in “Bull Durham.” However, Laurila’s interviews with former players hearken back to an era in baseball when the players were the true boys of summer before money and greed forever changed the game both on and off the field.
