New stadiums for old

February 25, 2008

This will be the last season for the homes of both New York teams. Losing Shea Stadium is no big deal; it was a cold, cavernous ugly concrete structure from day 1. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
But Yankee Stadium is a cathedral and the though of it being demolished is truly a sad one.

Never have been in either, but the “new” Yankee Stadium always struck me as being sterile, and having virtually nothing in common with the “real” Yankee Stadium other than occupying the same space and a small amount of infrastructure. Both parks look like serious upgrades and the new design of Yankee Stadium looks like there’s a preference for the style of the original.
