Happy Birthday, Curt Flood

January 18, 2008

Interesting that about the same time as the story comes out reporting that baseball salaries are at an all-time high, we note the birthday of Curt Flood, who was responsible for the situation, for better or worse.

For better obviously would have been for the players to make a decent wage and extricate themselves from under the thumbs the the owners who treated them, as Flood would say, like chattel. For wore because things have gotten way out of hand. Complaints are always registered that these athletes should not be paid more than police officers, fire fighters, or teachers, who really contribute to society.
