Another opportunity missed: W.P. Kinsella

November 15, 2016

During my hiatus from this blog, we lost W.P. Kinsella. Makes me feel even worse that I failed to include Shoeless Joe in my 501 project. No excuse.

I had a chance to have Kinsella as a guest for a Bookshelf Conversation podcast but I blew it. Shortly after he published Butterfly Winter: A Novel, I got in touch with his publicist to ask if he might be available. Amazingly, he was, but I never pulled the trigger. I was too much in awe of him. I felt the same way about Eric Rolfe Greenberg, author of the celebrated baseball fiction The Celebrant: A Novel, but I got over that when I met him at a SABR convention. Couldn’t have been nicer.

Kudos to Doug Moe at Madison Magazine, who seems to have the “honor” of conducting the last interview with Kinsella.
