Used to be you actually had to be a member of the media to get one of these. Made it seem a bit special. Now anyone with a few bucks can purchase them.
The Orioles, in celebration of their 60th anniversary in Baltimore, have gone an additional step: You can view all of their media guides online. It’s certainly interesting to see the evolution of these publications.
I know the Detroit Tigers have a few of their more recent media guides available for online viewing. A random look at other teams via MLB.com doesn’t turn up any more examples of the ballclubs’ beneficence.

These are great. Note that by 1955, there was zero evidence in the Orioles media guide that they had once been the St. Louis Browns.
When I was a kid, we used to get old media guides from the sportswriters at the Providence Journal. Football mostly.
Yes – The old media guides and the old “green” and “red” AL/NL guides issued each year were the only sources of detailed information for fans — other than newspapers and Sporting News of course. They still are – it’s quicker to use them than to look up stuff online. Same goes for the pocket schedules.
