Feast or famine. I can go for weeks without posting any new material but in the past week I’ve had the very good fortunate to speak with three extremely talented artists: Eric Rolfe Greenberg, author of The Celebrant, which is considered one of the best baseball novels by just about every outlet who decides these things; Thomas Dyja, author of the award-winning Civil War/baseball novel Play for a Kingdom; and Sports Illustrated and Major League Baseball photographer Brad Mangin, whose new book, Instant Baseball: The Baseball Instagrams of Brad Mangin, might change the way consumers look at his profession. (Both of the novels appear in the fiction chapter of 501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read before They Die and I would have included Mangin’s book had it been published before 501‘s release date.)

Mangin

First up will be my conversation with Greenberg, which was conducted during the recent SABR Conference, followed shortly (I hope) thereafter by Dyja (pronounced “DIE-jah,” in case you were wondering) and Mangin. All three gentlemen provided fascinating insights into their disciplines and I’m sure you will enjoy hearing their thoughts as much as I did.
