Best. Headline. Ever.

Don’t want to get involved with the whole A-Rod ban business, but couldn’t pass up this from the New York Post, which I usually only consider when lining the birdcages.

Of course, if you want to get picky about it should be “played” on, but close enough for jazz.

Say what you will about Rodriguez being right or wrong, but there’s a process in place and some people — fans, media, other players, Commissioner Selig — seem to be upset that he’s using the protections allowed by appealing.

I was on jury duty earlier this year for a murder case and we acquitted the defendant. Doesn’t mean we thought he was “innocent,” but the prosecutor did not prove the case “beyond a reasonable doubt.” It’s akin to what’s going on here. Is Rodriguez being punished for something specifically to do with Biogenisis or the accumulation of (perceived) past sins?

My daughter asked me if I thought A-Rod would win the appeal. Of course, the majority of us are not privy to the actual evidence MLB may (or may not) have, so it’s impossible to say with certainty, but I’m guessing that following the reversal of Ryan Braun’s suspension last in 2012, there’s little chance of that happening.

From the “Do as I say, not as I do” department, from today’s Times: “After [Ryan] Braun was suspended, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi said emphatically that he was tired of the cheating, imploring players to stop trying to beat the system. Girardi’s job, however, is to try to win games for the Yankees, not to enforce baseball’s drug policy or investigate possible cheating.”

Another thing I find a bit interesting/troubling: With the exception of Braun and Rodriguez, every one of the other 12 players banned come from Latin America countries.

You know there are already writers working on books about the Biogensis business, just as BALCO was raked over the coals in Game of Shadows.
