So that’s why (WIllie Stargell books)

June 20, 2013

In yesterday’s review roundup I wrote:

Not exactly sure why there are two new bios about this Pirates’ Hall of Famer at this particular time (no anniversary of his birth or death), but Pete Peterson’s Pops: The Willie Stargell Story is reviewed on Lancaster Online. The other one is Willie Stargell: A Life in Baseball, by Frank Garland.

I received a nice e-mail from Peterson, left in the photo with former Pirates pitching ace Steve Blass at a recent booksigning,  informing me of the significance of the timing:

Triumph Books asked me last May to write a book on Stargell’s career that would be publish in 2013, the 25th anniversary of Stargell’s induction into the Hall of Fame and the 50th anniversary of his first full major league season.  I’ll be speaking about Stargell at the Hall of Fame in late August for Pirates Day.
