Pundittracker does the work so I don’t have to

April 4, 2013

One of my favorite baseball preseason pastimes is reading all the predictions from the “experts.” I would pore over the annual publications, the newspapers (when they used to publish a special section right before Opening Day, and the various websites and create elaborate spreadsheets. That way, I could test the accuracy of their prognostications at the end of the year. Surprisingly, most get it wrong.

By the way, “surprisingly” was meant as sarcasm, which doesn’t seem to be working on this keyboard.

It’s amazing. Only weather people and sports pundits can be so wrong so often and retain employment.

logoAnyway, that was then; this is now.

Pundittracker (motto: “Bringing Accountability to the Prediction Industry”) recently posted “MLB Pundits: Rounding Up the 2013 Baseball Predictions.”

Will 2013 be be the year in which the MLB pundits turn it around? We will be tracking 63 so-called experts from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS, Yahoo, and Fox. Here are their aggregate picks across nine categories: six Division Winners, two Pennants, and World Series….

So, for example, 62 of the 63 chose the Detroit Tigers as winners of the AL Central title, 39 picked them to win the AL pennant, and 23 to win the World Series.

There are also choices for which players will win the major awards.

There’s some betting component, which frankly I just don’t care to follow, nor do I get. Just as well.

Bonus: Scroll all the way down for more baseball punditry articles.
