All that work for nothing

March 8, 2013

As I might have mentioned, I served three weeks of jury duty recently. There was a lot of down time during which I sought to memorize the projected starting nine, DHs, and pitching staffs for every Major League team, as put forth by The Sporting News baseball annual. And I managed to finish with the Padres on the last day of service.

I should have known better.

The Yankees are decimated by the loss for substantial time of Curtis Granderson, projected as the team’s centerfielder), Mark Tiexiera (first base), and Alex Rodriguez (third base).

The Cardinals have lost their starting shortstop, Rafael Furcal.

The  Mariners traded their starting catcher, Jason Jaso, to the Washington Nationals for outfielder Michael Morse (thereby screwing up two teams for me, although TSN actually had Stephen Strasburg as the starting left fielder (!) and ignored both Bryce Harper and Morse.

I’m not even going to get into the pitchers who will miss at least the beginning of the season.

I was listening to the podcast of Baseball Tonight while working out  yesterday. Every time they started to discuss a team or a specific player, I ran down the rest of the lineup in my head and was pleased that I could recall almost everyone.

Just sayin.’ I worked hard on this, guys. Don’t mess it up for me.
