Nuts for Nats

June 18, 2012

With the Washington Nationals doing so well, it’s not surprising that some media outlets are jumping on this unlikely bandwagon.

The Atlantic posted this article about the local fans behavior, unaccustomed as they are to being in a position where they can lord it over lesser ball clubs (like the Mets).

The Washington Post, on the other hand, gives a nod the the city’s (literally) older  fans. Let’s face it: it’s not like the Nats (which was what the old Se-NAT-ors were called from time to time) are the Cubs, who haven’t won a pennant since 1945 or a world series since before calendars were invented. Although if you’re talking about a city that hasn’t seen a team involved in the post-season, then you’ve got something: Washington hasn’t been there since they lost in five games to the NY Giants in the 1933 World Series.

Of course, if Sports Illustrated gets wind of this and puts it on the cover…
