An ode to Homer is Extra Hot Great

April 3, 2012

I have a handful of podcasts I listen to religiously, mostly on my way to work. It’s very ritualistic. I start each Monday with Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. From then on it’s Pardon the Interruption and Extra Hot Great Minis, a scaled down, one-topic version of Extra Hot Great, one of my favorite pop culture podcasts.

One of the regular segments of EHG  is “The Canon,” which seeks to immortalize a particular excellent episode of a TV show. (If by some chance you’re reading this, David Cole, I’m still planing that Deadwood canon.) The most recent episode — which also paid tribute to iconic theme songs for sports shows — was featured an homage by guest host Will Edmondson to the classic Simpsons episode Homer at the Bat. You can listen to the show here; the Canon segment comes in at about the 43:30 mark.

The Bookshelf made note of the 20th Anniversary of the original airing of Homer at the Bat — via The Hardball Times — here. Deadspin put their own spin in the episode, which you can read here.
