I don’t like the looks of this: NL to adopt the DH?

March 6, 2012

First it was regular interleague play. Then the Brewers switched leagues. Now the Astros will move to the AL (why couldn’t they have just left the Brewers alone?)

But now, Sports Illustrated‘s Tom Verducci asks “Is the designated hitter coming to a National League park near you?

I get it. They’re trying to pump up the offensive volume, especially in a post-steroids world. They want to make the game exciting for younger fans, who are staying away in droves. (Here’s an idea: start the marquis events like the All-Star Game and post-season while the kids are still awake!)

Call me old-fashioned, but I like the strategy in the NL, even if it does mean a few more pinch hitters.

Just sayin’.
