Mr. Postman: Special delivery — Damn Yankees

Just received an advance copy of Damn Yankees: Twenty-Four Major League Writers on the World’s Most Loved (and Hated) Team, edited by Rob Fleder (Ecco).

The book, due out in April, features contributions from some of my favorite writers (although, to be technically correct, the “Major League” probably refers to their status as tops in their game as opposed to sportswriters who follow the team on a regular basis), including Roy Blount Jr., Charley Pierce, Leigh Montville, Will Leitch, Jane Leavy, Dan Okrent, Tom Verducci, and Dan Barry, to name just a few.

And in case these wonderful essays — not all of which could be considered as falling into the “hero worship” category — aren’t enough, the book concludes with a section on stats and figures.

Fleder is a former executive editor of Sports Illustrated .
