Pass the popcorn: Moneyball DVD hits the stores

January 11, 2012

The Atlantic included four baseball films — Moneyball, Field of Dreams, Catching Hell (the ESPN 30/30 documentary about Steve Bartman), and Cobb (!) — in this list of “10 Great Sports Films for People Who Don’t Watch Sports.”

Personally, I would have suggested A League of Their Own waaaaay before Cobb, which was pretty much panned by critics. The Geena Davis-Tom Hanks vehicle played a major role in educating moviegoers about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

In addition, I don’t know if it’s exactly “fair” to consider documentary and feature film in the same list. Just sayin’.

Grant Brisbee posted this ode to Moneyball on Baseball Nation. The DVD is now on sale for $16.99 at Amazon.com. The “special features” seem a bit skimpy; they include:

  • Blooper-Brad Loses It
  • Billy Beane: Re-Inventing the Game
  • Moneyball: Playing The Game
