Kinsella feted by Canadian Baseball HoF

W. P. Kinsella was awarded the 2011 Jack Graney Award, presented by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame for a “significant contribution to the game of baseball in Canada through a life’s work or for a singular outstanding achievement.”

The award is named for one of the first Canadian baseball players to enjoy success in the major leagues, and one of the first notable Canadian baseball broadcasters.

While the 76-year-old Kinsella has written several novels and short story collections on the game, the award was given in recognition of Shoeless Joe, which was turned into the classic film Field of Dreams.

According to the story on the Hall’s website

“I wrote it 30 years ago, and the fact that people are still discovering it makes me proud. It looks like it will stand the test of time,” said a humbled Kinsella….

Recently received Kisnella’s just-published book, Butterfly Winter and am greatly looking forward to reading it soon.
