Beach reading, part 1

July 20, 2011 · 1 comment

The first of what will probably be several lists/suggestions:

Linda Holmes, over at Monkey See, the pop culture blog for NPR, offered a selection of five sports books for the summer, including Stan Musial: An American Life by George Vecsey.

And, what the heck, there’s enough info to consider Scorecasting a baseball book, too. This is my blog; I can do that.

If you’re into podcasts like me and you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour, hosted by Holmes (although they may have recently changed the title).

I read Scorecasting and enjoyed it.  To those who have read the Freakanomics books, Scorecasting is similar only focusing on debunking/proving out common sports preconceived notions.

Despite that description, it really is fairly light reading and perfectly suited for reading under a cabana sipping a Summer-time cocktail.
