This has “problem” written all over it

And not just because Charlie Sheen is associated with it.

Why do the folks in Hollywood think it’s such a great idea to bring back a franchise several years — in some cases decades — later?

Case in point: Sheen has expressed interest in  revisiting the Major League franchise, resurrecting Rickey “Wild Thing” Vaughn. He comes out of retirement to serve as a mentor for a young pitcher who either reminds him if himself all those years ago, or is totally the opposite, causing Vaughn to reexamine his philosophy.

Gee, how original.

I know the original Major League was a popular movie (although it’s lost its allure to me after repeated showings), but the sequels were dreadful, on a par with those that came after the first Bad News Bears.

According to this piece from Newsoxy.com (which seems to have been written by a 10-year-old),

David S. Ward has written a script for Major League 3. Here’s what David S. Ward said last July about the plot of Major League 3.

“It’s 20 years later, and Wild Thing comes out of retirement to work with this 19-year-old player. We’ve actually got three new characters in the new film. And if the new film is popular, they could carry the franchise on.”

Along with Charlie Sheen, David S. Ward said that he also wants to bring back Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen and Wesley Snipes from the original Major League. It isn’t known if Major League 3 is currently set up at a studio at this time. Major League 3 is in development and stars Charlie Sheen. The film is directed by David S. Ward.

Maybe David S. Ward wrote the piece. This story makes TMZ’s announcement read like Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism in comparison.

When in doubt, haul out the old classics and try to remake them.

Isn’t Wesley Snipes in prison?

Even better. Willie Mays Hays is the new Ricky Vaughn!
