Wait Wait, tell me again

February 1, 2011

The most popular post on this blog was one that resulted from listening to my favorite podcast, NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, hosted by the erudite Peter Sagal, a local hero ’round these parts (who just celebrated a birthday, I might add).

That particular entry involved former Major Leaguer Moose Skowron, the guest for the show’s “Not My Job” segment just about two years ago. I won’t go into the whole story again; you can read it here. Suffice it to say it served as the impetus for my new obsession with memory and perception, especially as it pertains to sports.

So it was with some extra interest that I listened to this week’s guest, Cal Ripken, Jr., waiting for him to err, as Skowron had. No soap. Ripken was ever-the-gentleman, living up to his reputation as a straight-shooter (even if he did get all three questions wring, even with Sagal prompting him to pick another answer).

You can listen to the segment and read the transcript of the show here.
