* Point of clarification: The “Loogy”

May 3, 2010

Shows how out of the loop I am when it comes to keeping up with statistical terminology.

In a previous entry, I attributed the term “Loogy” — an acronym for left-handed one-out guy — to Sean Forman, the creator of Baseball-Reference.com who contributes to the “Keeping Score” column in The New York Times. Forman subsequently informed me that he, in fact, did not coin the term and that it has been around for a long time.

My apologies to the person/organization who did come up with the colorful nickname.
