* Opening day thoughts

April 6, 2010

Since you can keep a newspaper on your bookshelf, I suppose I could do this on a daily basis. Hmm.

April Fool. There are plenty of other blogs that can take care of that.

What?

Man, I gotta get rid of these Page-a-Day calendars. I’m just too disorganized.

First of all, just wanted to let you know I’ll be co-hosting BBA Baseball Talk tonight with Sean Maloney, who blogs about the Cubs at Prose and Ivy. The show can be heard on BlogTalk Radio.com at 11 p.m. (EST). Tentative topics include an overview of Opening Day, a who’s who of players on the Disabled List, and a look at Commissioner Bud Selig’s plan (if you can call it that) for realignment.

So, just a quick look at the season so far.

  • Got a laugh out of seeing a “leaders” section in the NY Times sports section. FYI, Adam Lind  of the Toronto Blue Jays leads all MLB batters with a 1.000 batting average.
  • Did you see Mark Buehle’s between-the-legs play to a bare-handed catch by Paul Konerko? In a way, it’s kind of too bad. There’s won’t be a more fun play this year.
  • Atlanta Braves Jason Heyward — who I predict as the NL ROY — crushed one on his first ML at-bat.
  • The Mets won– and nobody got hurt. Although my feelings were: I flipped through the dial in time to find a highlight clip on the MLB network. What did they show? A nice, but fairly routine play by Hansley Ramirez. The announcer mentioned how improved the Marlins’ defense was. The folks at the Network must have been to busy to actually watch the game, otherwise they would have notice how sloppy the Marlins actually were on the field.
  • The Phillies and Cardinals won. Meh. But the Pirates? That might just be their highlight for the year.
