Analysis: It is interesting to note the number of older titles, especially in the statistical category. Aside from the 2009 edition of Baseball Prospectus, none of the other “annuals” are in the top five (Hardball Times, Bill James Gold Mine, etc.) James’ Historical Abstract could use a serious update to include the 1990s. Perhaps the author is waiting for the first decade of the 21st century to end so he can include that as well. Lewis’ Moneyball continues to be a favorite. Sometimes the release of a new title re-generates interest in his other work. The Mental Game of Baseball has been around even longer.
