* PTI on Ibanez accusations

June 11, 2009

I love Pardon the Interruption, and not just because the show tends to tend to agree with my point of view and vice versa.

On yesterday’s show, Messers Wilbon and Kornheiser weighed in on the Raul Ibanez steroids situation, which I had addressed earlier in the afternon. (Funny, but the whole situation stemmed from a blogger writing about FANTASY BASEBALL!)

The blog entry has generated a fair degree of comment, not just about the possibility that Ibanez used, but the ongoing debate on the differences between bloggers and journalists and the issue of responsibility and accountability.

Wilbon: “Tony, You said everyone is under suspicion in baseball now in this era. Is it fair then to suspect Ibanez.

Kornhesier: Yes, it is and everyone is under suspicion because they  have lost the presumption of innocence. It’s unfortunate because this guy has passed every single test, but we’ve changed. The era has changed because guys like Alex Rodriguez and…Manny Ramirez, …and maybe Barry Bonds, and maybe Mark McGuire…

Wilbon: Clemens.

Kornheiser: Come on. So they’re all suspected of this and it’s unfortunate that we have an intenet circumstance where people can  be inflammatory with everything they say.  But yeah, don’t you think that everybody is under suspicion to some degree?

Wilbon;  Yeah, Tony, I think it’s fair to be suspicious. I don’t  think it’s fair to the individual.

Kornheiser: It’s not fair to be accusatory, but it’s fair to be suspicious.

Wilbon: And it’s fair for Ibanez to have that reaction.

Kornheiser: Absolutely. One hundred percent.

Wilbon: When I first heard his comments about bloggers, I thought you wrote ’em, or I could have. You and I, we underdtand howthis is played in the media…

Kornheiser: I would take issue. I would point out… Raphael Palmeiro waggin’ his finger at Congress and then going down for the count…
